Narco Honduras Salguero Trial Has Sealed Motions About Ardon Soriano, JOH Jan 2023

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell Book
BBC-Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN NY Mag

SDNY COURTHOUSE, August 17 –  After the president of Honduras' brother Tony Hernandez was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to life plus thirty years, on April 21, 2022 the ex-president himself, Juan Orlando Hernandez, was extradited to the United States.

[Espanol aqui]

Inner City Press which covered the trials of Tony Hernandez and Giovanny Fuentes Ramirez immediatley published the unsealed JOH indictment, which was returned on January 27, 2022 but left under seal.

Now, a related case is moving toward trial, with problems about a witness, Ardon Soriano. Inner City Press live tweeted a proceeding on August 17, 2022, here and below.

First, the trial: "ORDER as to Otto Rene Salguero Morales, Ronald Enrique Salguero Portillo. The trial of this action as to the above-named defendants is set for November 7, 2022 at 10am in Courtroom 11D. Government voir dire, requests to charge, Rule 404(b) evidence and any in limine motions are due September 9, 2022. Defendants' in limine motions, responses to government in limine motions, voir dire and requests to charge, including objections to government requests due September 23, 2022. Government responses to defendants' motions due October 7, 2022. Final Pretrial Conference set for October 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. (Government Responses due by 10/7/2022, Jury Trial set for 11/7/2022 at 10:00 AM in Courtroom 11D, 500 Pearl Street, New York, NY 10007 before Judge P. Kevin Castel."

From August 17 thread: "OK- #NarcosHonduras case of Salguero now before  @SDNYLIVE  Judge Castel, who's done Tony H and soon JOH.

Ronald Salguero wants to fire Linda George and retain Baum. George says she didn't know until she saw David Zapp signed in to visit Ronald in MDC jail.

Zapp reads a CorrLinks email from Ronald, translating from Spanish.

Ronald: I want Zapp. Judge: This has peril. Trial is in November.

AUSA: We take no position. George: My private investigator is here in court. We found inconsistencies in the prosecution's case. But this new lawyer won't know of it, my sealed letters...

One of the sealed filings, we now report, questions the testimony of Ardon Soriano

Judge: Ms George, you are terminated. She comes back into the gallery. Zapp sits by Ronald. Defense counsel met with head of SDNY Criminal Division. Now there's talk about "the fridge... construction in the area."

The proceeding ended. Inner City Press will have more about it, about Amilcar Alexander Ardón Soriano and (hopefully quickly) about the filing(s). Watch this site.

On May 11, JUAN CARLOS BONILLA VALLADARES, or Tigre Bonilla, formerly of the Honduran National Police, was presented and Inner City Press live tweeted it here

On May 10, Juan Orlando Hernandez was brought into court to be arraigned. Inner City Press live tweeted it, thread here

Back on April 21, a lawyer filed a notice of appearance to represent JOH: Raymond L. Colon of 131 Pugsley Avenue in The Bronx, with 30 other cases over the years in SDNY.

On April 22 by video Colon represented JOH at his presentment. Inner City Press live tweeted here

Previously, Inner City Press asked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres why he supported already-disgraced JOH in helping to steal his second election, by sending a four person panel with no read-out.

There has still been no answer from UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric - but Guterres' head of media access Melissa Fleming has banned Inner City Press, ongoing.

On April 21 Inner City Press posted vlogs in English and Spanish, and streamed the DEA press statement from DC, here. We will cover JOH's presentment, arraignment and trial.

The case is US v. Juan Orlando Hernandez, et al., 15-cr-379 (Castel).
