Alex Matias Had 103 F Temperature in MCC But Remains Detained As Risk of Flight

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 9 – Alexander Matias, detained in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan after being arrested in November 2019 on drug and gun charges in Yonkers, had temperature of 102.8 F on March 31.

On April 9 he sought release for imprisonment before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Laura Taylor Swain.

Assistant US Attorney Jacob H. Gutwillig at first said his temperature had been 101 degrees - but later corrected that to 102.8 F.

Defense lawyer Frederick L. Sosinsky said that is hardly consistent with having a cold. But his client had previously evaded probation in North Carolina, it was argued.

Ultimately Judge Swain denied his application for release. The case is US v. Matias, 20-cr-40 (Swain).
