Man Charges With York Ave Robbery Digs Into SDNY Jury Wheels Like in Balde and Schulte

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 14 – Damien Matthews is charged with the armed robbery of a store at 1594 York Avenue in Manhattan. But there are issues about how the grand jury that indicted him on August 25 was selected.

On September 14 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Federal Defenders, saying many residents of the SDNY were and are practicing social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, asked for records about the Master and Qualified Jury Wheels, as in US v. Balde (and US v. Schulte, etc).

Recently Inner City Press asked Acting US Attorney Audrey Strauss if Columbia University ex doctor Robert Hadden was indicted by a virtual or in person grand jury. In person, she seemed to say.

Judge Vyskocil took note of the Jury Wheels requests, and put the next date for November 4.

The case is US v. Matthews, 20-cr-430-MKV (Vyskocil)
