As Broker Genius Talks Settlement SDNY Judge Stein Notes What Is Said Can Be Published

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 23 –   Broker Genius, Inc. sued Seat Scouts for allegedly stealing its trade secret technology. Then Seat Scouts filed a Suggestion of Bankruptcy.

U.S. Distict Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Sidney H. Stein held a proceeding on June 23. Inner City Press covered it.   The parties quickly said they are nearing a settlement, and began to describe it.

Judge Stein wisely cautioned them to stop. He reminded them it was a public proceeding and recounted that in a case before another SDNY judge the parties in a similarly open proceeding mentioned a proposed settlement figured. The Press published it - Judge Stein correctly said that was fine, it was an open proceeding. But this case, he urged circumspection.

And so a letter will be filed soon, on whether there is in fact a settlement in principle, or a signed deal.

The case is Broker Genius Inc. v. Seat Scouts LLC et al., 17-cv-8627 (Stein).
