Brazilian Divorce Triggers SDNY Subpoena To See If Pedro Weil Hiding Assets

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 31 – The courts have reopened in Brazil, and a Brazilian divorce was the subject of an August 31 proceeding before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehburger. Inner City Press covered it.

Judge Lehrburger had previously granted a subpoena allowing Ana Christina Degens to collect evidence.

Now Pedro Weil is seeking to intervene and quash the subpoena.

Degens' lawyer from Wilk Auslander, on the other hand, argues that "evidence that Weil has been transferring assets - e.g. from Brazil to this country - would certainly be 'for use in' the Brazilian case [and] could be the basis for renewing an application to the Brazilian court for a 'blocking order' to prevent Mr. Weil from rendering any eventual judgment ineffective by divesting or hiding assets."

The case is In Re: Anna Christina Degena, 20-mc-00237 (Koeltl / Lehrburger)
