Video Presentment of Defendant King Amid Coronavirus Has Public and Press On Phone

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Thread
BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 14 – A defendant named Mister King was presented on charges related to cocaine and not reporting to Probation, in an April 14 proceeding before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang.

While Judge Wang said the proceeding was by video, which Inner City Press on April 13 reported the SDNY court would start using, the Press and public were only able to access and report on this criminal proceeding by telephone, often with speakers unidentified.

It was not accessible for seeing. Live tweeted thread here.

The Assistant US Attorney agreed to bail and the return of Mister King to Rochester in the Western District of New York. His Violation of Supervised Release hearing is scheduled for May 12 - in the Western District of Texas.

Someone, unidentified, asked if that could be moved to the SDNY.

Judge Wang replied that under the CARES Act it could be by video. With the Press and public still inexplicably sightless? Inner City Press will stay on these issues - and will publish the docket number of this case if and when it becomes available. Watch this site.
