In SDNY Mag Court Alleged Gang Member Ordered Detained Until Sept 15 Proceeding

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 31 – On Friday August 28 a defendant was processed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court, and was ordered detained at least until September 15. Inner City Press covered it.

It was before 5 pm when a defendant named Ruffat appeared before SDNY Magistrate Judge Debra C. Freeman. CJA lawyer Grainne O'Neill - she spelled her name and said it was Irish - argued for release on bond.

But Assistant US Attorney Alexandra Rothman alleged gang membership, and said that the assigned District Judge, John G. Koeltl, had scheduled a proceeding on September 15.

Ruffai was ordered detained as a danger to the community.

The case, the docket number of which was not read out during the proceeding, was finally on PACER by Monday August 31. It is US v. Ruffai, 20-cr-438 (Koeltl / Freeman).
