Depeyster After Failing To Register As Sex Offender Is Sentenced To Five Months In Prison

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 24 – John Depeyster is awaiting sentencing and on July 13 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Gregory H. Woods suggested doing it in person as early as next week.

Depeyster's lawyer Inga L. Parson said she is scheduled to visit prisons in Massachusetts next week, them proposed putting it off more than a month to August 24.

Judge Woods, who had said pointedly that the SDNY courthouse is ready for in-person proceedings which he said are already taking place (Inner City Press is on the lookout but so far has seen only one scheduled, without appearance, before Chief Judge Colleen McMahon), agreed to August 24.

On that date, Inner City Press went to Judge Woods' courtroom. There was Depeyster at the defense table with his lawyer, and two in the gallery. Judge Woods recounted trial testimony he did not credit, then imposed five months imprisonment to begin on January 4. Of the five years of supervised release, the first seven months will be home incarceration.

The case is US v. Depeyster, 19-cr-253 (Woods)
