Man Charged With Gunfire on 191 Street Is Ordered Detained in SDNY Magistrates Court

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTROOM Exclusive, Dec 15 – In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on the late morning of December 22, a detention or release proceeding was held by Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker on a defendant charged with shooting a gun on 191st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue on July 29, 2021.

The defendants, Joshua Romera, was bought in by Marshals; he was wearing a yellow prison jumpsuit. His lawyer said he might not get the ten years he faces, and pointed at his wife, the only person in the gallery other than Inner City Press. He offered three relatives to sign a bond, listing their incomes and what they work in. It was not enough.

Judge Parker conferred with Pre-Trial Services, apparently about Romero proposing to live in same apartment he was in on the day of the alleged crime. She said he is a danger to the community, with prior felony convictions. She ordered him detained.

He will apparently be not in the MDC in Brooklyn but Essex in Newark, New Jersey. His lawyer said he is not vaccinated; Judge Parker asked if the prison offers vaccinations and was told they do.

The case is US v. Romero, 21-mj-10730 (Oetken / Parker).
