Supervisee Says No One Told Him Of COVID Probation Call Ins At SDNY Probation

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 8 – Emmanuel McKenzie was part of a multi-defendant narcotics conspiracy case in 2015. Now he is on supervised release.

On October 8 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Richard M. Berman held a Supervised Release proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

At first, McKenzie did not call in.

When he did, he explained he had phone problems.

More, he said that during the COVID pandemic, no one from Probation told him that he should be calling in. He said he came to 500 Pearl Street and told, "Ms Hill is not here right now," but was not told to call in.

On the other hand Judge Berman was told that McKenzie does not feel it is the right time to look for a job, given COVID.

Some other judges in the SDNY have reacted less than positively to this. But Judge Berman set another conference for October 15.

The case is US v. McKenzie, 15-cr-288 (Berman)
