Defense Lawyer For Reyes Wants Job at SDNY US Attorney So Curcio Hearing 10 Minute Call

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 10 – Reinaldo Reyes has a defense lawyer who has applied to be a prosecutor. Unlike in a recent case in which a defendant's lawyer was married to a prosecutor, this conflict was disclosed to Reyes.

On December 10, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge William H. Pauley III held a Curcio hearing. Inner City Press covered it.

Shriram Harid of Dechert LLP applied to the USAO-SDNY on November 4, and told Reyes on November 6. On November 20, the US Attorney's Office asked for a Curcio hearing.

Judge Pauley asked Reyes to state in his own words his understanding of that the conflict of interested might be.

When this did not draw a satisfactory answer, Reyes and counsel were told to confer for 10 minutes.

The case is US v. Oquendo et al., 13-cr-357 (Pauley)
