Inmate Jhangroo Sued For Riker's Beatdown Then Mulled Firing Arnold & Porter, Keeps Them

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 11 – Ryan Jhagroo says he was viciously attacked by other inmate on June 7, 2015 in front of two Corrections Officers on Riker's Island. In 2016, he filed a hand-written pro se lawsuit.

On April 9, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Mark Kay Vyskocil held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Jhagroo had written a hand-written letter, asking for one final settlement conference.

Now he has gotten pro bono representation from Arnold & Porter. Judge Vyskocil noted that he had written seeking to change lawyers.  He said he would stick with them.

The final pre-trial conference is set for June 8.

The case is Jhagroo v. Brown, et al., 16-cv-3426 (Vyskocil)
