Drugs and Gun Trial in SDNY Pushed to August on Bandwidth With Suppression Hearing Before

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 5 – Rakim Brown is detained awaiting trial on drug and gun charges.

On February 8, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Sidney H. Stein held a proceeding about Brown's access to discovery. Inner City Press covered it.

Now on April 5, Judge Stein held another proceeding. Brown's defense attorney has left a law firm to start her own. There were multiple references to bandwidth (with the prosecutor citing the US v. Calk case and the defense US v. Donziger, both of which Inner City press is covering). The trial date here was moved from July to August, on consent.

Before then, there will be a suppression hearing, which Inner City Press intends to cover as well.

Back on February 8, Judge Stein heard from Federal Defenders' Deirdre Von Dornum, apparently for the first time in a while. He joked, You never call, you never write.

The situation in the MCC and MDC was described. Judge Stein mused about contacting "General Lynch, the mediator" - meaning Loretta Lynch.

But he decided on contacting fellow SDNY Judge Alison J. Nathan, an observer in the mediation process. Inner City Press will continue to report on this case.

It is US v. Brown, 19-cr-513 (Stein)
