Bloomberg LP Sued For Gender Discrimination By Syeed Now Motion to Dismiss Due Jan 15

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 25 –    In August Nafeesa Syeed sued Bloomberg LP and several of its officials for sexual discrimination, in New York State court. Bloomberg LP removed the action to Federal court, where it is seeking to get it dismissed or at least reduced to a non class action.

On September 25 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Gregory H. Woods held a conference on Bloomberg LP's forthcoming motion to dismiss. Inner City Press live tweeted it, here:

SDNY Judge Woods: Let me turn to counsel for plaintiff(s).

A: Thank you your honor. We filed this complaint under NY law. I asked for info from defense counsel. In the notice of removal [to Federal court] they included information about the number of females

Plaintiffs' counsel: We need to know the number of New York news reporters and editors to whom his might be applicable, before they can move to strike "and others similarly situated."

Judge Woods: Thanks. Defense counsel says your client was not a NY news editor

Plaintiff's counsel: Bloomberg LP continued to deny her the NY position. Look at 15-cv-712 [will]... Right on point, the plaintiff had interviewed for NY work place, that provide the NYC workplace injury.

Plaintiff's lawyer: It was a pattern, from Dubai to Washington... It was perpetuated throughout the culture at Bloomberg. The lack of support as a female news reporter - it would satisfy their liability.

Now on December 21, this schedule: the briefing schedule for Defendant's anticipated motion to dismiss is as follows: Defendant's motion is due no later than January 15, 2021; Plaintiffs' opposition is due no later than four weeks after the date of service of the motion; and Defendant's reply, if any, is due no later than two weeks after the date of service of the opposition. The page limitations for the parties' briefing is as follows: Defendant's motion shall be no longer than 35 pages; Plaintiffs' opposition shall be no longer than 35 pages; and Defendant's reply, if any, shall be no longer than 20 pages., ( Motions due by 1/15/2021.)"

Note: Plaintiff in this case against Bloomberg LP is "a South Asian-American female Bloomberg LP News reporter." She named Matthew Winkler, John Micklethwait, Marty Schenker, Reto Gregori and "John Does" 1-10. Bloomberg LP's lawyers at Proskauer Rose removed it to SDNY.

The case is Syeed v. Bloomberg L.P. et al., 20-cv-7464 (Woods)
