After Trial of Man Charged With Crack Sales & Dispute on Cooperator Claxton Gets 60 Months

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell Book
BBC-Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN NY Mag

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 20 – Reginald Claxton was on trial on crack cocaine charges in June 2022 - but the compensation of a cooperating witness became issue.

On June 21, 2022 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein presided over the trial. Inner City Press went and covered it.

On the witness stand an NYPD witness described the crack vials and why they were empty (the contents were taken out for testing and weighing).

Later another witness, on redirect, needed his recollection refreshed.     Claxton's lawyer said that the "case comes down to two men you can't trust.

A man named as Angel, he gets his housing paid for by the NYPD. Pretty nice, right?"

The prosecutors wrote in in seeking the right to tell jurors that the housing is in the project, to which Angel was relocated amid threats.

And then: Reginald Claxton was found not guilty, and Judgment of Acquittal entered.

On September 20, a co-defendant was sentenced: "JUDGMENT In A Criminal Case (S1 20-Cr-631). Date of Imposition of Judgment: 9/8/2022. Defendant Sheldon Clark (2) pleaded guilty to Count(s) 1s. Count(s) All open counts are dismissed on the motion of the United States. IMPRISONMENT: 60 months. The defendant is notified of his right to appeal. - The court makes the following recommendations to the Bureau of Prisons: that the defendant be confined at the Devons or Butner facility to receive medical care and participate in a program where he can learn to read and write."

The overall case is  US v. Spearman, et al., 20-cr-631 (Hellerstein)
