Dakwan Edwards Detained For Leaving SDNY After Travel to Nicks Game in Cleveland in 2017

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 12 – Dakwan Edwards was charged in 2007 with selling crack. He pled guilty on April 2, 2009 before then-Magistrate Judge Michael H. Dolinger of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Then-District Judge Barbara S. Jones on July 8, 2009 sentenced Dakwan Edwards to 10 years in prison in "a facility in or as close to the NYC metro area as possible."

On October 4, 2017 Dakwan Edwards appeared before SDNY Judge Loretta A. Preska for violation his Supervised Release by, according to the transcript, traveling to Cleveland to attend "a game where the Cleveland Cavaliers were playing the New York Nicks [sic] in Cleveland, and he stupidly didn't get permission and just went and attended the game." Docket 687 at page 6.

Now on February 12, 2020 Dakwan Edwards appeared again in the SDNY Magistrates Court, with Inner City the only media present (and soon after using PACER). Dakwan Edwards is charged with a Violation of Supervised Release, leaving the district without permission on August 16, 2019. The specifications are not yet in PACER. Edwards was detained on consent, pending a February 20 appearance before Judge Preska. The case is 07-cr-3, US v. Edwards (Preska / Lehrburger).
