German Minister Roesler Wanders to UN Stakeout, Talks Sperling, Disappears

By Matthew Russell Lee

UNITED NATIONS, June 19 -- Tuesday morning amid build up for the Syria briefing of General Robert Mood, an entourage described as "mysterious" stepped to the Security Council stakeout. They were accompanied by UN Security, and the German Mission's Deputy Permanent Representative Miguel Berger.

Quick Press inquiries found that the leader of this pack was Philipp Roesler, Vietnam-born German economy minister and big cheese in the FdP political party of, among others, German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle.

As he stook near the microphone, Inner City Press asked him about his talks the day previous "in the White House" -- who did it actually meet with? The Treasury Department?

No, he replied, Gene Sperling. He mentioned "energy" - that would be Energy Secretary Steven Chu, and US trade chief Ron Kirk. Then one of his entourage stepped forward to block the UN Television camera. No filming, he commanded.

Too late: you're on candid camera. The UN filming continued. But more than five hours later, still this stakeout had not been put on UN Webcast archives. Why not? Mulligans like in golf cannot be allowed at the stakeout. If it happens, it happens. Doesn't it?  We'll have more on this. Watch this site.
