SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Nov 28 – The day after Sean
Combs was denied bail for the
third time, Inner City Press'
second book about the case,
Diddy Detained, was "Blocked"
by Amazon's Kindle service,
without explanation.
They wrote,
"We’re contacting you
regarding the following
book(s): Diddy Detained:
US v. Sean Combs, Part II by
Lee, Matthew Russell (AUTHOR)
(ID: 59782028) Diddy Detained:
US v. Sean Combs, Part II by

During our review process, we
found that your book(s)
violate our Content
Guidelines. As a result, we
are not offering your book(s)
for sale on Amazon. If
you have questions or believe
you've received this email in
error, reply to this message."
We have
replied, twice, 10 hours
apart: nothing.
The
book is entirely based on the
proceedings, both (three) oral
arguments and court filings.
So why should it be
censored?
Inner City Press voluntarily
stopped reporting on some
graphic cases in the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York.
But Sean Combs' parties and
network included high
political officials and
others. By what right should
Jeff Bezos' Amazon be
censoring
it?
Kindle sent
no notice to respond to, and
its "contact us" page is
mostly FAQs with no e-mail
much less telephone link. So
Inner City Press through the
only contact box available
sent in, on the morning of
November 28:
"I am writing
about Kindle listing as
"BLOCKED" my book "Diddy
Detained: US v. Sean Combs,
Part II, By Matthew Russell
Lee." Please
be aware - I am a journalist
covering the Manhattan Federal
courthouse, this book is my
second about the US v. Sean
Combs criminal case.
"This book is
entirely based on transcripts
and filings in a public court
case of public interest. The
first in the my series, Kindle
published then KDP / Amazon,
apparently operating
robotically, blocked it. I
wrote in and they replied:
"Diddy Do It? We incorrectly
blocked your book and
apologize for the
inconvenience this
caused. The book will
soon be published on Amazon."
And it was
made available online nearly
immediately. So that's back -
and that should happen in this
case, on the sequel. The bail
decision I'm reporting was [30
hours ago] so this blocking is
a problem - please
respond / act / restore today,
this morning." Now a full
day...
