Fetty Wap Pled To 5 Years Mandatory Now Gets Six Years in EDNY

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell Book
BBC - Honduras - CIA Trial Book - NY Mag

EDNY COURTHOUSE, May 24 – Hip hop artist Fetty Wap, whose given name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, pleaded guilty on August 22, 2022 to a superseding indictment on which there is a five year mandatory minimum.

The only way out of a mandatory minimum would be the "safety valve" - not eligible, it seems clear - or cooperating. But his lawyer said, "He is NOT cooperating. I want that to be very, very clear. This is a standard plea." Inner City Press is covering the case.

On May 18, 2023, the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York asked for the guideline sentence of 87 to 108 months, stating that "During the COVID-19 pandemic, the defendant, or others acting on his behalf, drove to Suffolk County on approximately six occasions and purchased kilogram-quantities of cocaine from the organization, which the defendant then resold in New Jersey. (Id. ¶ 6). In total, the defendant distributed 25 kilograms of cocaine." Full filing on Patreon here.

On May 24, Fetty got six years: " in federal court in Central Islip, United States District Judge Joanna Seybert sentenced William Junior Maxwell II, who is the rap artist known as “Fetty Wap,” to six years’ imprisonment and five years of post-release supervision for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. On March 7, 2023, Judge Seybert sentenced Maxwell’s co-defendant Anthony Cyntje, a New Jersey correction officer, to 72 months’ imprisonment for his role in the drug trafficking conspiracy."
