GREENWICH
VILLAGE, June 1 –
As summer looms over
New York City, a much needed
swimming pool in Greenwich
Village nears… demolition.
The Tony Dapolito
Recreation Center, including a
poolside Keith Haring mural
and a narrow indoor pool, was
closed five years ago
ostensibly for renovation.
Now Mayor
Eric Adams' budget has $52
million to demolish the site.
On June 1,
residents were joined by
Public Advocate Jumaane
Williams, Councilmember (and
Manhattan Borough President
candidate) Keith Powers and
others to protest the planned
demotions.
Amid the
speeches, a passerby shouted,
"Anthony Weiner!" As Inner
City Press noted - and
photographed - last week on
the Lower East Side, Weiner is
running for the Council.
But where,
some wondered, were Advocate
candidate Jenifer Rajkumar,
and BP candidate Brad
Hoylman-Sigal?

More to the
Mayoral point, what is the
position of Columbus Day
candidate Andrew Cuomo on the
impending demolition of the
former Carmine Street pool
renamed for beloved grassroots
activist Tony Dapolito? Watch
