SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Sept 13 – A man previously
sentenced to 52 months in
prison on gun charges was back
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Gary
Stein on September 13 on
violations of supervised
release. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court.
Judge Stein
recounted the underlying state
charges, including two loaded
guns. He asked the Federal
Defender if he would argue for
release on bail.
No, was the
response, a fast hearing
before the District Judge to
whom the case was in 2022
reassigned, Vernon S.
Broderick.
The AUSA said she
would contact Judge
Broderick's chambers to set up
a conference.
She said there is
no right to a preliminary
hearing on a VOSR. Judge Stein
said he differed; a control
date of September 27 was
set.
The case
is USA v. Godfrey,
1:16-cr-849 (Broderick /
Stein)
