SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 18 –World Gold Trust
Services which says it owns
the mark and ticker symbol GLD
sued Franklin Templeton
Holdings Trust for using the
ticker symbol
FGLD.
On March
17, 2023 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Alvin K.
Hellerstein held a proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
It was
argued that ticker symbols
cannot be trademarked, and
that there is no confusion. It
was counter-argued that of
course any unauthorized use of
an acronym like IBM would be
sued.
Judge
Hellerstein gave until March
21 for a motion to dismiss to
be filed, with replied by
March 28.
The case is World
Gold Trust Services, LLC v.
Franklin Templeton Holdings
Trust et al., 22-cv-8641
(Hellerstein)
