Outside Bronx Housing Project Had
Change of Plea Set But 2d Thoughts

COURTHOUSE,
Aug 26 – A man allegedly
caught coming out of a South
Bronx housing project with a
.22 long rifle near midnight
on November 24, 2023 was
scheduled to plead guilty as a
felon in possession on August
26 before U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Amit
Subramanian. Inner City Press
was there.
But when
Judge Subramanian asked the
defendant his intention, he
replied, Can I be honest with
you?
He said his
intentions had changed in the
past few days, from pleading
guilty to a Pimintel letter to
perhaps not pleading guilty at
all. He expressed doubt about
his lawyer.
Judge
Subramanian said of course the
plea would not proceeding on
this basis, and arranged for
defendant and CJA lawyer to
remain in the courtroom to
talk. A new date was set for
September 12, with a letter
before that.
The case
is US v. Faisal, 24-cr-304
