SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 25 – Without
mentioning the
immediate
remand to
custody, or
the a citation
by the
defendant to
Scripture
(Romans 13:1),
DOJ on April
20, 2023
announced that
"MATTHEW
TAYLOR
WITKOWSKI was
sentenced
today to 60
months in
prison for
conspiracy to
commit health
care fraud by
fraudulently
trafficking in
orders for
durable
medical
equipment such
as back, knee,
and elbow
braces.
WITKOWSKI
previously
pled guilty to
the conspiracy
charge and was
sentenced
today before
United States
District Judge
Denise L.
Cote."
Inner City
Press went to
the
sentencing.
The AUSA said
very little.
Witkowsky
spoke for
himself,
citing Romans
13:1 and God,
several times.
Midway
through, three
U.S. Marshals
came into the
courtroom.
After
Judge Cote
imposed a
sentence of
sixty months,
she ordered
remand, given
the
defendant's
links to, and
history with,
the Dominican
Republic.
He
appeared to
expect it, and
was granted
time to say
goodbye in the
courtroom.
On
May 25, a
similar
announcement
that
"CHRISTOPHER
MARGAIT was
sentenced
today to 65
months in
prison for
conspiracy to
commit health
care fraud by
fraudulently
trafficking in
orders for
durable
medical
equipment such
as back, knee,
and wrist
braces.
MARGAIT
previously
pled guilty to
the charge and
was sentenced
today before
United States
District Judge
Denise Cote."
Inner City
Press was
again there;
reference was
made to a
Florida case
and
resentencing,
with
imprisonment
in the state
of Florida and
RDAP made, but
not FCI Miami
in particular.
The
case is US v.
Margait,
22-cr-312
(Cote)
