Bookkeeper Who Stole Half a Million Dollars From 65 Year Old Gets 38 Months in Prison

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 19 – A bookkeeper who stole $500,000 from the 65-year-old owner of the small business she worked for was up for sentencing on February 18 before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Analisa Torres.

Inner City Press was there, the only media in the courtroom:

She: I have been in MDC Brooklyn jail for 10 months, it is tough.

Judge: The guidelines are 46 to 57 months. She stole $500,000 from a 65-year-old small business owner, and is seems only $20,000 can be recovered. I sentence you to 38 months. Will you work toward restitution when you get out?

She: Yes your Honor.

The case is USA v. Alptunaer, 1:23-cr-188 (Torres)
