SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 13 – A man who was
sentenced to three years in
prison for attempted
kidnapping and then deported
was up for sentencing for
illegal re-entry of the US on
August 13 before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Jennifer H. Rearden. Inner
City Press was there, the only
media in the courtroom.
Judge
Rearden recounted that the
three year sentence was
lenient, but that after
deportation to the Dominican
Republic the defendant tried
to sail with others, who died
at sea. He was charged but
while on bail re-entered the
US again.
He was
arrested in Washington Heights
for an obstructed license, and
has been in jail for eight
months. Judge
Rearden sentenced him to 24
months - so, 16 more months -
after which it was said he
will probably be deported.
His counsel asked
for his property including
cash back, and the AUSA said
he will confer and bring it
about.
The case is US v.
Bueno Diaz, 24-cr-262
(Rearden)
