SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 21 – For operating a meth
pill mill in the Bronx, a
husband and wife were arrested
in February 2024. At
presentment, they had the same
retained lawyer.
On August
21, both appeared before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Denise L. Cote. Inner
City Press was there.
Judge Cote
asked the husband if he
understood and waived the
potential conflict created by
the initial joint
representation. He said yes.
Jump cut
to 3:30 pm, and after other
guilty pleas, the husband
himself pled guilty.
At the
prosecution's request he was
told that since he is a
naturalized citizen, he might
lose his citizenship and be
deported.
The case is US v.
Espinal Paulino, et al.,
24-cr-240 (Cote)
