SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 5 – For transferring a
kilo of fentanyl by 243 West
179th Street in the Bronx on
March 15, 2022, Angela Urena
on September 13, 2023 came to
plead guilty before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge P. Kevin Castel. Inner
City Press was there, the only
media in this SDNY
courtroom.
Back in
March 2022, Urena had been
released on $25,000 bond.
Thereafter, her case was
repeatedly continued.
Now she had
a plea deal: for 70 to 87
months.
Jump cut to March
21, 2024, when Angela Urena's
counsel wrote in and asked for
18 months.
On April 11,
Angela Urena got 40 months;
surrendered has been delayed
to August 6.
On June 12,
Angela Urena's lawyer wrote in
and asked for the sentencing
transcript to be redacted,
saying the prosecutors are
fine with it. The judge said,
"one word that hasn't been
said here is fentanyl."
On August 5, on
Angela Urena's letter seek to
extended surrender from August
6 to August 26 so that her
mother, returning to the
Dominican Republic before
then, would not have to be in
the US when she surrendered,
Judge Castel "granted to the
limited extent that Urena
shall surrender on August 13."
