SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 5 – Herman
Brightman is charged with
kidnapping at least four
women, one with a minor child,
and assaulting the
women.
On December
11, he was before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Barbara C.
Moses. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag Court.
The AUSA
described Brightman
impersonating a medical
professional and finding new
victims online even of the
previous victim called the
police on him.
The Federal
Defender said he could be
ordered to home detention with
his father in Central Islip,
if the state case is dropped
now that the underlying
kidnapping charge has been
Federalized.
Judge
Moses declined to order
Brightman free, citing both
danger to the community and
risk of flight, including with
an ankle monitor.
On June 10, 2024
a conference was set for
August 5. But on July 22,
Brightman pled guilty to
counts 2 and 8, with
sentencing set for November 7
at 10 am.
The case
is US v. Brightman, 23-cr-642
(Cronan / Moses)
