SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Feb 27 – A defendant arrested
with crack cocaine and a gun
in East Harlem was up for
sentencing on February 26
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge P. Kevin Castel.
Inner City Press was there,
the only media in the
courtroom.
The US Attorney's
Office wanted five years; the
defense asked for 15 months,
annexing letters from
relatives including that his
client, 23, had played
basketball and football as a
teenager, and worked for a
time for UPS. He wants to
"pursue employment in the
trucking business."
Judge
Castel sentenced him to 28
months and seven years of
supervised release.
The case is USA
v. Hassell, 1:24-cr-531
