COURTHOUSE,
Aug 22 – A defendant caught
with a gun at midnight on
Riverdale Avenue in The Bronx
on October 11, 2023 pled
guilty and was up for
sentencing on August 22, 2024
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge John P. Cronan.
Inner City Press was
there.
The Federal
Defenders ascribe it to
alcohol, and submitted a
re-entry plan which, like
their sentencing submission,
had redactions.
The US
Attorney's Office recounted
prior arrests - Judge Cronan,
apparently from the sealed
Pre-Sentencing Report, cited a
West 10th Street petit larceny
charge - and asked for the
guideline in their Pimintel
letter: 27 to 33 months.
Judge
Cronan recited that 722
similarly situated defendants
without a cooperation
agreement got an average and
median of 27 months.
He
sentenced the defendant to 27
months and wished him well,
including with the food truck
aspired to.
The case
is US v. Whitfield,
24-cr-232 (Cronan)
