Pleads Guilty Now Gets 25 Years

May 12 –
A man charged with a 2019
murder on 158th Street and
Broadway in Manhattan was
brought on September 23, 2024
into the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Magistrates Court,
covered by Inner City
Press.
The now-unsealed
indictment contains "notice of
special sentencing factors."
Another defendant had
previously been charged for
the same murder, in a case the
docket in which is silent
since January 2024.
This new
defendant was appointed a
white shoe law firm as CJA
counsel, and consented to
detention.
Jump cut to
February 10, 2025 when Filpo
pled guilty, with the US
Attorney's Office's plead deal
capping the sentence at 25
years.
On May 12 that is
what he got: LUIS FILPO was
sentenced to 25 years in
prison for murdering
24-year-old Roberto Vasquez,
an innocent bystander who was
mistaken for a gang
rival. FILPO previously
pled guilty to conspiracy to
commit murder in aid of
racketeering and assault with
a dangerous weapon in aid of
racketeering. U.S.
District Judge Paul A.
Engelmayer imposed today’s
sentence which was imposed to
run consecutively to a state
sentence the defendant is
serving
