COURTHOUSE,
Jan 6 – In February 2024 the
UNITE HERE union notified its
members that their data had
been hacked. Litigation filed
and was consolidated and the
calendar showed a final
pre-trial conference on
January 6, 2025 before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Jed S. Rakoff. Inner
City Press went, the only
media - the only person - in
the gallery.
Why haven't
I heard from the parties?
Judge Rakoff asked the
lawyers.
Plaintiffs' counsel held up a
document and said there is a
settlement agreement, only
requiring sign off by a second
insurer.
Show it to me, Judge
Rakoff said. He was told each
class member will get… $7.50.
Credit monitoring was
mentioned.
Defense
counsel said he had not heard
back from the second insurer
or their law firm, not in the
docket, "due to the
holidays."
Judge
Rakoff said the holidays are
over and asked for the name of
the insurer and phone number.
It was
Chubb, and number given.
Judge Rakoff
called but got voicemail. He
set a deadline in 24 hours,
and joking - jokingly perhaps
- of sending the US Marshals.
He added, I hope they are
better in satisfying their
obligations to everyday
people. Book here
