SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
May 21 – Charged with the
armed robbery of a smoke shop
in Harlem on September 11,
2023, a defendant was brought
on July 2 before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
John G. Koeltl to have a trial
date set. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in that
courtroom.
The Federal
Defender said he may file a
motion challenging the search
of the defendant's cell phone
and photos - many of which
appear in the complaint,
including a display of cash in
a high-rise apartment that
appears to be in Florida.
Judge Koeltl chose January 14,
2025 at the date to start a
week-long trial, with
defendant's motions due on
August 22.
On August 21
Allen's Federal Defender wrote
in saying they plan to
schedule an in-person meeting
to discuss a disposition, and
asking to push back motion for
at least 30 days.
Jump cut to May
21, 2025, when the defendant's
subsequent CJA attorney wrote
in that their relationship had
broken down and asking for a a
status conference on another
change of counsel.
The case is
US v. Allen, 23-cr-681
(Koeltl)
