SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Feb 6 – A former CUNY
professor who pled guilty to
human trafficking young women
from El Salvador to the US for
forced sex was up for the
sentencing on February 6
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge John G. Koeltl.
Inner City Press was there,
the only media in the
courtroom, thread:
Judge: Mr Ramos
got a doctorate from CUNY,
taught there and Queens
College, then York College...
He also worked at La Prima
Bakery at 765 East 182nd
Street in The Bronx. He could
go back at work in a bakery,
except he'll be deported [to
El Salvador]
Defense lawyer:
He is in his 40s, he comes
from El Salvador which was and
is crime riddden [Has he heard
of CECOT prison?] His
grandfather got him drunk at 4
years old... He came to the
South Bronx and was robbed.
But he went to school
Defense: They
gave us a plea agreement for
78 to 92 months, two points
for toddler... Now they ask
for 13 years. They cite
Elkorany, some sort of UN
official with 20 victims
[Inner City Press covered it,
then banned from UN]
Defense: On
general deterrence, no one is
watching this case [Note: in
this otherwise empty
courtroom, beyond Inner City
Press, there is a guy with a
shopping bag and a COVID who
says loudly that he's come
down "all the way from
Larchmont to support
George"]
AUSA: He paid
coyotes to smuggle 3 young
women through Guatemala &
Mexico to US, as he'd done it
before
Jorge George
Ramos is sentenced to 97
months in prison.
Update: Inner
City Press went back and dug
up, i the docket, the
sentencing memo which states:
"The City College indicated to
probation that they would
rehire Mr. Ramos in the
future." Really?
The case is USA
v. Ramos, 1:23-cr-380 (Koeltl)
