COURTHOUSE,
May 22 – Megan Thee Stallion's
personal cameraman has sued
her and Roc Nation for
discrimination and
retaliation, recounting being
forced to witness sex on a
trip to Ibiza, Spain, in a New
York City strip club and
elsewhere.
On
February 10 a conference about
depositing Megan Thee
Stallion, identified in the
Complaint as Megan Pete, was
held by U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Gregory H.
Woods. Inner City Press live
tweeted it. From the thread:
Defense:
They seek to depose Ms. Pete
[Megan Thee Stallion] a mere
30 days after the deposition
was noticed. But this is a
scheduling issue. Feb 26, she
is not available. We propose
June.
[From the
complaint: "the
hypersexualized lyrics blended
into the working relationship
with her employees"]
Judge: Counsel
for ROC Nation?
ROC
Nations' lawyer (Michael
Kleinmann of Reed Smith) We
wish we could have avoided
this.
Judge:
Adjourned.
On February 12,
ROC Nation moved to dismiss,
notice of motion on Patreon here.
On May 22, a
discovery conference that
Inner City Press covered and
live tweeted, here:
Plaintiff's
lawyer: They are trying to
block the deposition under the
apex doctrine. But Ms. Perez
was involved in determining my
client's compensation.
Defense: Ms. Perez
specifically says, I review
and then it goes to Meg. She
is not the gatekeeper.
Defense: Roc
Nation is the management for
Ms. Pete [Meg] She is an
A-list celebrity. Right now
there's nothing but rank
speculation and it doesn't
overcome the apex doctrine.
Judge: I appreciate that Ms.
Perez is CEO of this company.
But here she's into invoices
Judge: This is
not something I expect Jamie
Dimon is doing. [There is no
laughter- to recap, Megan Thee
Stallion's cameraman has sued
her and Roc Nation for
discrimination and
retaliation, being forced to
witness sex on a trip to
Ibiza, Spain, in an NYC strip
club
Defense: The
manager's job is to make the
client's life easier. It's
crystal clear that it's Meg
who makes the decisions.
Judge: I understand the
parties have agreed to the
deposition of CFO Sean
Mulvehill? Defense: They
sought a full day, we say two
hours, remote
Quinn
Emanuel, for Megan Thee
Stallion: Ms. Pete will be
able to testify about this at
her deposition. Judge: So
counsel to Roc Nation [Reed
Smith] is moving for
protection, citing the apex
doctrine. I rule that
the CFO may be deposed for
four hours.
Judge: Ms. Perez,
the CEO - I believe that
protection of her against the
deposition is appropriate at
this time. It is premature to
determine that a deposition of
Ms. Perez is warranted. There
are two alternative sources:
the CFO and Ms. Pete herself
Judge:
Adjourned.
The case is
Emilio Garcia v. Roc Nation
LLC, et al., 1:24-cv-7587
