Cuba Gooding Jr Facing Trial on Sex Assault of Jane Doe Has Lawyer Say Her Real Name Twice

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 1 – Cuba Gooding, Jr. faces a civil trial for allegedly violating NYC's Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Law in Soho's Mercer Hotel.

The female plaintiff has been anonymous, as "Doe" - but at the June 1 final pre-trial conference Gooding's lawyer said her real name not once but twice, along with information about her bankruptcy filing that otherwise identifies her.

Inner City Press covered the final pre-trial conference, thread here:

Judge Crotty, to Gooding's lawyer: You are trying to exclude evidence that you should really argue to the jury about the weight it should be given.

Gooding's lawyer: Why would she follow him into the bedroom? To watch him change his clothes?

The Complaint says Gooding "put on music (Mumford & Sons, to be specific) then began to take his clothes off."  Judge Crotty: The time to take depositions is over.

Judge Crotty: What about the social media posts?

Gooding's lawyer:  The woman from the club went on social media to say the plaintiff had bragged about having consensual sex with him.

Judge Crotty: What about the criminal case against Mr. Gooding?

Gooding's lawyer: I was not involved, but I understand that he pleaded guilty, but only as to one woman, not two.

Gooding's most recent filing contrasts "Plaintiff rejoining her fiends for more drinks at Le Souk immediately after allegedly being raped by Gooding undermines her claim."

Now Gooding's lawyer says, We are not seeking to admit evidence of her child sexual assault

Gooding's lawyer says, then apologizes for saying, the Jane Doe plaintiff's real name. Now going into the specifics of her Alabama bankruptcy case.

Judge Crotty: How did it end?

Gooding's lawyer says the name again...

Gooding's lawyer: She claimed to be destitute but then said she made $5000 a week.

Judge Crotty: The jury can just consider that, and that she bought a Zuccatti motorcycle.

Counsel: It's a Ducati.

Gooding's lawyer: He has accused me of using the press against the plaintiff.  He says that in the February 2023 conference - 5 news reporters were there, and they were there to hear me accuse the plaintiff of lying.

Judge Crotty: The media have their own sources... The press is going to be here.  [That's true: Inner City Press argued before Judge Crotty for access to all proceedings in US v. Joshua Schulte (some of which was sealed)

Gooding's lawyer not only twice said Jane Doe's real name - he described in detail her Alabama bankruptcy filings.

The case is Doe v. Gooding, Jr., 20-cv-6569 (Crotty)
