In the
U.S. District
Court for the
Southern
District of
New York on March 8,
a detention
or really
conditions of
bail proceeding
was held by
Magistrate
Judge Gabriel
W. Gorenstein
on a man charged
with stealing
over
$100,000 work
of US Treasury

belonging to
others.

The
Assistant US
Attorney said
home detention
should be
required, that
one of the
officers would
testify the
defendant used
or threatened
force to steal
the checks.
But the
officer was
not called to
testify.
The
Federal
Defender said
her client
would need to
travel to a
second
maternal home
in New Jersey,
that he wants
to get his GED
and work for
the Department
of
Transportation.
Judge
Gorenstein
agreed to
stand-alone
monitoring,
and New
Jersey. On
FD's argument
that the
Supreme
Court's Bruen
decision means
the defendant
couldn't be
precluded from
seeking to get
a gun, he said
he'd need
briefing.
The
case is US v.
Pratt, et al.,
23-mj-1736
(Gorenstein)
