SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 22 – Jose Gonzalez is
charged with running guns from
North Carolina to New York; he
was arrested with five
automatic weapons he had
brought north for sale.
On May 22, 2023,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Gabrial W.
Gorenstein held a presentment
and bail hearing. Inner City
Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag
Court.
The
Assistant US Attorney said
that Gonzalez is a risk of
flight. His Federal Defendent
said no, he had had a painting
job at the University of
Georgia, and had a cat and
dog.
Judge
Gorenstein agreed with the
AUSA about risk of flight,
saying that since Gonzalez
would be deported if
convicted, he would have no or
little reason not to flee. He
ordered him detained.
The case is
US v. Gonzalez, 23-mj-4182
(Gorenstein)
