Man Who Resorted to Selling Crack Once Lost Housekeeping Job Got 5 Years Co-D Asks Same

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 10 – Brandon Wilkins was facing sentencing for selling crack in Brooklyn. His lawyer in a September 7 submission wrote that he was working as a housekeeper but lost the position in 2019 and "resorted to selling cocaine base in the vicinity of Vernon Avenue and Lewis Avenue in Brooklyn."

He'd attended an all-boys school called Berkshire Farm High School in Canaan, NY through the 11th grade.

On pre-trial supervision he lived in an apartment in Newark, NJ then at the end of August 2022 moved to a shelter in New York City. Then, seeking to resolve a warrant in Virginia he was remanded there, for three and a half months in the Pamunkey Regional Jail. He wanted time served. Inner City Press has been covering the case, as part of its Endless Sentences project.

As docketed on October 2, Wilkens got sixty months, with Fort Dix recommended. He must also pay $5,280 in forfeiture.

Jump cut to April 10, 2025, when co-defendant Jamell Williams though counsel asked to be sentenced to 60 months as a street level drug dealer when he is sentenced on April 23.

The case is US v. Wilkins, 21-cr-424 (Kaplan)
