SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 12 – Luis DeJesus
was arrested after an October
15 shootout near 1080 Anderson
Avenue in The Bronx. He had
previously been convicted of a
gun felony in The Bronx on
2005.
. On
November 15, DeJesus was
brought before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Robert W.
Lehrburger. Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the SDNY Mag Court.
On
November 8, Inner City Press
witnessed and reported the
case of Shamar Jefferson, for
a shooting on Anderson Avenue
in the Bronx. And on January
30, Jefferson too was indicted
- but his case assigned to a
different judge, Vernon S.
Broderick.
Charged as
a felon in possession of
ammunition, DeJesus was
detained on consent.
On January 30,
2024after two orders to
continue in the interest of
justice, DeJesus was indicted
and his case assigned to Chief
Judge Laura Taylor Swain.
On May 10, the US
Attorney's Office wrote it
that "Luis DeJesus has
expressed, through counsel,
his intent to plead guilty...
May 17 at 10 or May 20 at 12
noon."
He pled guilty on
May 20.
On September 12,
his counsel wrote in asking
for two years - the first line
is about cook marinara sauce
for his wife. Sentencing is
set for September 26 at 2:30
pm.
The case is US v.
