Manhattan Man Gets SDNY Deferred Prosecution

COURTHOUSE,
August 2 – A man arrested for
theft of mail and checks in
2022 on Manhattan's West Side,
and in 2023 on Manhattan's
East Side, came before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Gary Stein on
August 2, 2024. Inner City
Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag
court.
The
complaint describes theft of
mail from a collection box on
79th Street and Madison Avenue
using a belt and "sticky
substances." It has a photo of
mail recovered during the
arrest.
After repeated
continuances "in the interest
of justice," on August 2 the
prosecutors announced a
Deferred Prosecution
Agreement.
The case is
US v. Hernandez, 23-mj-6030
