SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 2 – Police were
surveilling what they surmised
was a drug spot on Woodycrest
Avenue in The Bronx on August
1 when a man came out with bag
which he put in a car and
drove off.
When after
they say he ran a red light
and they stopped the car,
police found three kilos of
fentanyl inside. Back on
Woodycrest Avenue they
searched the apartment and
found 23 kilos of cocaine.
On August
2 the two men were brought
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Gary
Stein. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court. Thread:
Prosecutor:
Defendant is not a US citizen;
he was two convictions since
coming here. Given his lack of
[legal] status, he could flee
to the Dominican
Republic. Defense: He
has 4 kids; His wife is a bus
driver
Defense:
This seems like a one-off
courier case, subject to a
motion to suppress.
Judge: I will detain him. He
faces ten years. He is in this
country illegally, he has an
incentive to flee.
