SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 7 – Luiz Tavarez Recio was
arrested for illegal reentry
of the US after having been
previously deported to the
United States.
He appeared on
August 7 before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Jennifer E.
Willis. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court. Thread:
Assistant US
Attorney: We seek detention,
as risk of flight. He has had
four bench warrant.
Federal
Defender: He only used a fake
ID once. His mother is
here.
AUSA: He was
convicted of robbery, assault
then was deported. He was back
and charged with false
impersonation. He was
stopped driving an electric
scooter on the sidewalk, then
gave a false name.
AUSA: If you're
going to release him, we would
request a GSP ankle
bracelet. Federal
Defender: His mother has back
trouble. He sleeps in her
living room. They are behind
on rent. He eats plantains and
salami for lunch. GPS would be
fine.
Judge: There are
conditions on which you can
released...I find it highly
unlikely you will not return
to court
The case is US v.
Taveres, et al, 24-mj-3353
