SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Sept 12 – Two men charged with
two kilos of fentanyl in an
apartment on West 152nd Street
were presented for bail or
detention on September 12
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Sarah
Netburn. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court.
The
Assistant US Attorney
recounted how many people are
being killed by fentanyl, and
said the first defendant was
linked to the apartment by
utility bills, the second by a
backpack with IDs inside.
Both
defense lawyers - they were
presented separately - argued
that the link was tenuous, and
argued for release.
And both won it,
the first with home detention
and a no-go zone around the
apartment, the other with a
home visit of a friend's
apartment on September
13.
The case is
USA v. Taveras, et al.,
1:24-mj-03309 (Netburn)
