SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Sept 12 – A man arrested with
a loaded gun on the Third
Avenue Bridge between
Manhattan and The Bronx was
presented for bail or
detention on September 12
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Sarah
Netburn. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court.
The
Assistant US Attorney said his
office had determined that the
defendant could be released on
bond, as long as it was to
home detention. Judge
Netburn asked him to explain
why detention was not
appropriate.
The
AUSA noted that the defendant
had been injured in a
motorcycle accident (the AUSA
had first called it while
trying to evade police).
The
Federal Defender began to say
home detention should be not
imposed - but stopped when
Judge Netburn said it was
between that and detention.
Ultimately she
agreed he could be bailed,
with a $150,000 bond with
three co-signers. At by day's
end he left the courthouse,
out only Worth Street.
The case
is USA v. Bonilla,
1:24-mj-3270 (Netburn)
