Felon Who Shot 5 Times In Bronx Club Faced 120 Months But Gets 100 For Pleading in SDNY

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 14 – Luis Rivera as a felon shot a gun five times in a nightclub in The Bronx on January 26, 2020.

On December 14 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Paul A. Engelmayer held his sentencing. Inner City Press covered it.

Rivera was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, not with the shooting.

That is, he faced a maximum sentence of 120 months if he'd gone to trial. For pleading guilty and accepting responsibility, Judge Engelmayer said, he needed to be credited. But it was a serious crime.

Judge Engelmayer sentenced Rivera to 100 months in prison, followed by three years of Supervised Release.

The case is US v. Rivera, 20-cr-221 (Engelmayer)
