SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 14 – For
bringing large
quantities of
methamphetamine
from Mexico
through Texas
to New York,
Francisco
Javier Mecina
Barrera,
Adalid Cabrera
Huato and
others have
been charged
in the U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York.
Inner City
Press on June
2 went to the
courtroom of
SDNY District
Judge Victor
Marrero and
witnessed the
guilty plea of
Francisco
Javier Mecina
Barrera, which
had not been
listed in the
day's Calendar
on PACER.
Mecina Barrera
had been
arraigned on a
superseding
indictment on
May 24 by
Magistrate
Judge Gabriel
W. Gorenstein,
with a final
pre-trial
conference
ostensibly
sent for June
2 at 9:30 am.
Then
just after,
unannounced,
he pleaded
guilty. Later
the
prosecutors
bragged about
the Cartel de
Houston. But
how much is
being
hidden?
Sentencing is
set for
September 8 at
10 am.
On
August 11, a
co-defendant's
sentencing
submission was
sealed: "ORDER
as to
(21-Cr-133-6)
Adalid Cabrera
Huato. The
Court hereby
approves the
sealing
request by
defense
counsel
regarding
defendant
Huato's
sentencing
submission.
(See Dkt. No.
220.)"
On
December 19,
as to Mecina
Berrera, the
US Attorney's
Office wrote
in to ask for
30 years,
noting that he
only pled
guilty "after
receiving the
Government's
3500 material,
which revealed
the identities
of the
cooperating
witnesses."
On
January 11,
2024, he got
21 years:
"Minute Entry
for
proceedings
held before
Judge Victor
Marrero:
Sentencing
held on
1/11/2024 for
Francisco
Javier Mecina
Barrera (4)
Count
1ss,2ss,3ss.
The Court
sentenced the
defendant to
252 months'
imprisonment.
No term of
supervised
release
imposed
because of
immigration
detainer on
defendant."
Jump
cut to April
14, 2025 when
the US
Attorney's
Office opposed
his pro se
motions to
vacate his
plea to Count
3 and bid to
blame his
lawyers. The
opposition
includes
photos of him
with a high
capacity
firearm.
The overall
case is
USA v. De Le
Mora, et al.,
1:21-cr-133
(Marrero)
