Medicaid Fraud Case Had Videos of No-Show Patient Homes Now Zak Gets Time Served

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 4 – In a multi-defendant Medicaid fraud case, Inna Gekelman is the last defendant.

On July 26, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge John P. Cronan held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Judge Cronan inquired into the status of discovery.

The Assistant US Attorney said there is pole-cam video of the medical facility, and also footage of at least two of the no-show patients' homes.

On September 23, 2022 amid many guilty pleas in the case, Marianna Levin asked to adjourn her sentencing from October 27 into 2023.

And went it happened on February 1, 2023, Marianna Levin cried and spoke of Ukraine; Inner City Press was there. Then: "MARIANNA LEVIN was sentenced to 54 months in prison for her leadership role in a broad fraud scheme that defrauded Medicaid for home health and personal care services that were not actually rendered, resulting in the loss of more than $100 million.  United States District Judge John P. Cronan imposed the sentence.  LEVIN pled guilty to wire fraud on June 1, 2022."

Jump cut a year forward and on co-defendant Jenya Kremen, the US wrote in to ask for at least one year imprisonment.

On April 19, 2024 Kremen was sentenced to eight months in prison, and $72,000 forfeiture.

On January 22, 2025 counsel to co-defendant Zak wrote in asking for time served when she is sentenced on February 4.

Inner City Press attended on February 4. After a discussion of cooperation, Zak was sentenced to time served and one year of supervised release.

The overall case is USA v. Levin, et al., 1:20-cr-681 (Cronan)
