COURTHOUSE,
May 19 – A man charged with
one completed and another
attempted armed robberies in
The Bronx in February 2025 had
a bail or jail proceeding on
May 12 before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Valerie
Figueredo. Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the SDNY Mag court.
The AUSA
asked for detention. The
Federal Defender argued for
bail. After taking a break,
Judge Figueredo said he could
be released, to his home in
Pennsylvania, which he could
leave daily to work for
Champion Elevator.
The AUSA
asked for a 24 hour stay, to
appeal to the Part 1 Judge,
Judge Oetken.
Judge
Figueredo said a stay would
not be necessary as meeting
the conditions would take
time.
In any
event, Judge Oekten upheld the
bond: "Minute Entry for
proceedings held before Judge
J. Paul Oetken: Bond Hearing
as to Nicholas Alcantara held
on 5/12/2025. Defendant
present with attorney Hannah
McCrea, AUSA Joe Zabel
present, Court Reporter:
present. Magistrate Judge
Figueredo's decision is
affirmed with the modification
that the defendant may
maintain his non-stationary
employment with his current
employer," Champion Elevator.

On May 19, the
case was indicted and wheeled
out to District Judge Rochon.
